The McCain campaign has worked diligently to mislead voters as to who exactly would benefit and who would not under their tax plan. They’ve worked even more diligently (read: lied) to mislead voters about Obama’s tax plan. So let’s get it down in black and white right here, right now.
If you make less than $2.87 million per year, Obama’s plan WILL NOT RAISE YOUR TAXES.
If you make less than $226,982 per year, Obama’s plan WILL GRANT YOU TAX CUTS.
Low-earning seniors would pay NO INCOME TAX AT ALL.
The largest tax cuts would go to the poorest Americans.
The only people under the Obama plan who would have to pay more taxes, would be the wealthiest 0.1 percent of earners in the country.
Are you paying attention?
Let’s look at McCain:
McCain’s plan would decrease taxes for all, BUT…
The BIGGEST DECREASES WOULD GO TO THE HIGHEST EARNING BRACKET OF TAXPAYERS. AND CORPORATIONS.
But wait, there’s more.
Americans in the LOWEST-INCOME BRACKET WOULD ONLY GET A 0.2 PERCENT DECREASE, the lowest decrease being offered under the McCain plan.
Those same individuals would get a 5.5 PERCENT DECREASE UNDER OBAMA’S PLAN.
According to Truthdig.org:
[Obama’s plan] means substantially cutting taxes for lower earners and raising them for the super-wealthy. But it also means a whole range of programs to even up access to health care, education and housing. Obama’s proposal would reduce insurance costs across the board and offer tax credits to employees who buy insurance. It would also add a $4,000 tax credit for families to send their kids to college.
And to make it that much clearer, here’s a graph from The Washington Post that places all this in a more “visual” perspective:
Ignore the lies. Get the facts. Judge for yourself.
