Both Barack Obama and John McCain gave speeches at the 63rd annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner the other night. Both men were eloquent and able to poke fun at themselves. Both men were also respectful and, at times, sincere. And while I’m happy to put something up here that isn’t all McCain-bashing, I’m afraid, after all of McCain’s truly ugly politics, it’s just too little too late:
I guess it’s just lucky for us that McCain’s comedy writers are better than his political advisors!

The Al Smith dinner is a charity event organized by the Catholic Archdiocese of New York for the benefit of needy children. An estimated $4 million was raised.
