As the proud owner of a gorgeous Gibson Les Paul 1960 reissue, I was saddened to hear today of the passing of the great Les Paul himself. Paul was 94 and died of complications from pneumonia. Among other things, Paul was the inventor of the solid body electric guitar as well as a pioneer of multi-track recording. Music itself as well as the music industry would not be what it is today without Les Paul’s innovations and creative mind.
“Suddenly, it was recognized that power was a very important part of music. To have the dynamics, to have the way of expressing yourself beyond the normal limits of an unamplified instrument, was incredible. Today a guy wouldn’t think of singing a song on a stage without a microphone and a sound system.”
